Kathmandu: Most parts of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley, have been experiencing intense heat over the past several days, affecting daily life across the country.

Scorching sunshine since morning, hot winds during the daytime and rising nighttime temperatures have increased discomfort, particularly in the Terai, Madhes and urban areas of the Kathmandu Valley.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, temperatures are gradually increasing as pre-monsoon activity remains weak and rainfall has been absent for an extended period.

Meteorologists say the weak influence of western and local winds, combined with clear skies and direct sunlight, has contributed to the ongoing heatwave conditions.

In recent days, the maximum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley has crossed 30 degrees Celsius, while temperatures in several Terai districts have approached 40 degrees Celsius.

Residents from areas including Nepalgunj, Janakpur, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa and Dhangadhi have reported severe heat and uncomfortable weather conditions.

Health experts have advised people to avoid staying under direct sunlight for long periods, drink plenty of water and fluids, wear light clothing and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the daytime.

Special caution has been recommended for schoolchildren, elderly people and workers engaged in outdoor labor.
According to weather officials, temperatures are expected to remain high for the next few days. Although occasional pre-monsoon rainfall may occur in some places, immediate relief from the heat is unlikely.

The department has urged the public to regularly follow weather updates and take necessary precautions against excessive heat exposure.

Meanwhile, parts of the Kathmandu Valley experienced light rainfall accompanied by wind and thunder on Sunday evening.
